What skills are neccessary for success in Life?

Personal skills can make you successful in life. Those skills can include honesty, optimism, and social skills. Personal skills have been instilled in us since we were able to know right from wrong and can be refined to get us through life.

Honesty is the most important. Every person looks at others integrity. For example, we look to police officers to serve and protect the people from everyday criminals. But what if the officers that promised and vowed to do just that turn to a criminal themselves. Then who do we look to for protection. Well, not the officers anymore because they broke their promise, they lied. So now the integrity that they up hold is out the window. Honesty is very important not only do we look for honesty in friendships, relationships, but also in every person. Where would we be if honesty was not a skill?

Optimism is actually how we look at everyday situations. I believe that there is a good and a bad to every situation. Things happen for a reason. With the good there is always a bad. However, there are many people who do not think the same as I do. Stress the is leading cause of death just about every year. Wonder why? Well when you have someone that can just take on problem after problem and not look at every aspect of it, well, it can be overwhelming. Take time to breathe. Optimism is a hard skill to even grasp as a concept, but when you worry about what you can fix at that time and not what you can not fix, optimism can slowly become a new or refined skill for anyone.

Social skills are very important. It is how we interact with people on a daily basis. Do you think that someone who is nasty and rude have great social skills? No they do not. You want to treat others like you want to be treated. But unfortunately in today's society social skills are lacking. But if we as people work on this skill little by little everyday, just maybe there can be a change in society and just how we treat each other.

Personal skills are very important and is necessary to for everyday situations. If we just apply these skills to ourselves then dealing with others can be more bearable.

"What skills do you need to be successful in College?"

There are number of skills need to be successful in College and in life. Some of those skills can include writing, effective communication, and listening skills. These skills are universal and can become transferable in and out of work and school.

As I learn more and more everyday attending my classes writing is the most imporant skill you can have. It can inform, persuade, entain, and express yourself. Writing reports for your boss or your teacher shows additional skills such as organization, quality of work, and effective communication.

Communication includes oral, written, and body language. Everyday you communicate with your tone of voice. May it be high pitched, low, or soft it allows your listeners to understand your point of view. Such as being passoniate, sad, or even happy with any topic that you are discussing. Written communication is also a must via e-mail or just an office memo having a well organized subject is also another way to get your point across with any subject matter.

Listening is also a transferable skill that you can take anywhere you go. This also you to show your speaker that you understand what they are saying.

Again writing effectivly, communication, and listening skills are transferable in college as well as in life. Having these skills are essential to successed in life. Do you think that you have these skills to prepare yourself for College or work life?

"Who I am? Who I am becoming."

I am Syreeta Whitlow. I am 24 years-old, a single mother of a 4-year-old and expecting. I currently work at Burger King on Midlothian since June of this year. I was Layed off from Brenco which is in Petersburg since February of this year. I was attending a stay at home online base school for paralegal but when internet and phone get turns off for non-payment of bill it makes it hard to attend online. So my friend who just stated to here at Bryant and Stratton convinced me to apply and registed for class. And here I am enrolled in the Paralegal program. I was scared at first because of past experience in getting accpeted into school so I was a little discourged. But when you have two 4-year-olds and a 23-year-old staking me about it, was kind if hard to ignore them. Today, was my first day of school in English 100 with Ms. Stapleton and so far I am at ease and feel really confident that I can do it. Now I can really make my son do his homework since mommy have homework too. I guess that will motivate him since he is overwhelmed with pre-k. It is kind of funny but I am taking the right steps for a brighter future and bigger pockets. See you next week.
